Information for Prospective Members

Cartmel Art Society, (CAS) founded in 1966, is a small friendly group of around 50 members, interested in learning and sharing new artistic skills.

We have two meetings a month at Cartmel Village Hall, generally on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Meetings consist of a full day workshop with a professional artist (10am – 3 /4pm) each month and an informal, themed painting/social morning (10am – 1pm)often lead by a member of the society. Various styles of painting and different mediums are included throughout the year. In addition outdoor painting sessions or trips are also part of our annual program. 

We have social meetings in the spring and around Christmas time where we enjoy a Jacobs Join and mulled wine etc. (Jacobs Join – bring a plate of food to share), together with an auction of nearly new and unused art materials, a simple painting competition, an annual prize and much more.

The highlight of our year is our Annual Exhibition in August.  This is a wonderful opportunity to show your work to a wider audience. It’s a valuable experience for artists of all abilities and an excellent way to showcase what CAS is all about. All members need to be involved with the exhibition in one way or another to enable it to run smoothly and professionally.

Our AGM is held in April where short reports are read, committee members are elected, workshops can be booked and paid for the following months and more food is consumed. This enjoyable occasion usually finishes with a demonstration and tuition from a local professional artist. 

We all have talents that are intrinsic to the smooth running of CAS. It is our society, so we all have to put something in to make it interesting  successful and work well. We all have life skills and experiences that can benefit the society, be it IT ideas or support, admin and organisation, photography, baking, fresh ideas everything right down to switching the lights out at the end of a session. 

We need active members to contribute to make CAS a success.  So if you love art, enjoy meeting new people and learning new skills and want to be part of a successful group we welcome you.
