Hello Everyone
So much to tell you in this news letter, lots to read probably! I’ll try and break it down into sections so it makes it easier to take in.
Nine of us got together bright and early on Monday morning for our first committee meeting of the year. We had quite a lot to discuss to ensure that CAS continues to thrive and go forward. We have an interesting new program that is just about ready to go for the next twelve months.
I’m hopeful it has a little bit of everything, New tutors and a few familiar faces, new challenges and workshops, a CAS outing together with a few ideas of how to organise things a little differently. We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming quite a few new members recently (we have nearly 60 people on our list now). It’s important that we all get to know each other and have some fun together while we learn new skills.
This year the majority of the tutors fees have risen (and i have tried to negotiate), as have the hire charges for the hall. We have therefore realised that our workshop fees will have to rise a little to accommodate these increases. We are suggesting a £5 increase for workshops so that we can try to cover our costs each month.
So workshops will now cost £25.00 each. The annual subs will stay the same at £30 per member. We would also like all subs to be paid before the AGM and Spring Party on April 22nd by BACS. We will not be taking subs payments on the day by card. If for any reason you do not want to remain a member of CAS please let us know as soon as possible. The AGM starts at 11.00am until around 3.00pm. The competition is a ‘Still life” creation. Would you all bring a plate of savoury or sweet food to share and don’t sit on your hands. We need your hands in the air volunteering a little help, perhaps for a one off occasion.

Our next art session: is on Wednesday 11th March, 10am until 1.00pm. This as you probably all know is when the children will be joining us again. We’re painting birds as they are doing a project about birds. We have a number of stencils to make things easier as there is little time, they are arriving at 10.15 and departing at 11.45. Val H is bringing drinks and coffee for them and their carers, so please bring your own drinks as usual. Some members have offered to make cakes. A million thanks for that.

Catherine McDiamid, who as you probably know is a well known and prize winning local portrait artist is our next tutor on Wednesday 25th March from 10 until 3pm. She has provided workshops for us in the past and they are always extremely successful and busy. It is really important that we know how many members are coming, so do please book with Rita on ritadenby45@gmail.com.
So you can be ready for Catherine’s workshop, this is what she has emailed to me.
The usual gear is required. I love Archers or Sandford paper. Rough or cold pressed in 300grams plus. It would be good if you could all have a face that fills an A4 sheet and then if you want to trace it you can. It should be on thin copier paper and a digital version is good for the colour copy. Or to have lightly drawn it out first ready to go would be good (but I do think that having two painting on the go at once is good). Also I can run over tackling more of a figure than just a face. Hair dryers will be required. Your usual watercolour kit and good brushes.

The last item to tell you about is another CAS outing. A number of members have mentioned having a trip to Fairfield Mill at Sedbergh. Some of the committee have been individually recently and have reported that is well worth a going with lots of very interesting and inspiring art based exhibitions, interesting old mill, great location amongst the rolling fells and a jolly good little cafe. We are proposing a visit on Thursday 21st May. We will organise car shares with a nominal fee toward fuel for the drivers. I have booked us in for lunch so I will require numbers please. We’ll have a list also at the next couple of meetings.
One last thing. One member did not get their secret Santa gift at the Christmas party. I keep bringing it along and no one has claimed it so far. Please do soon as It’s chocolate and it’s too tempting. I’m just gonna have to eat it!!!!!!
