I retired to the Lake District five years ago after careers in scientific research and teaching. I had to make the choice between science and art in the early 60’s and science won. I had always wanted to get involved in art again, so when Val Pattison, a new neighbour, presented me with 6 watercolours, a brush and an invitation to Witherslack Art Club, I was keen to give it a go!

A year later I joined Cartmel Art Society and sold two paintings at my first exhibition!!! I was hooked and really enjoy being part of this lively group. I try all types of medium and any subject, though I prefer watercolour and landscapes.
