Information here for the acrylic workshop on the 26th.
I have this subject worked out – I think the group will really enjoy the methods and techniques I will demonstrate for ‘Sprinkling Tarn’ – plenty of sunlight, water and craggy fells. I did an oil demo of it this week at Kendal and they really engaged.
See attached some references – no preliminary work or drawing required just a canvas or canvas panel. A ruler and pencil will come in for lay out.
Supports: It will be best to use a stretched canvas or canvas panel (paper is a bit flimsy for this). I will work 16 x 20 inch approx though some may like to work smaller e.g. 12inch x 16inch is good but no smaller.
A materials guide here – Using acrylic as requested – just a guide nothing mandatory.
Paints – Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Raw Umber, Cobalt Blue, Viridian, Black. Alternative colours can be brought and any others they like to use.
Brushes – Synthetic or bristle – a few flats, filberts and rounds and a small round, one or two soft blending brushes are useful.
Mediums: For acrylics I will use slow drying medium along with some gloss medium. If the group can have some of this available it will be used for the layering techniques and translucent effects. Winsor and Newton supply an excellent slow drying medium.
One of the things I’ll show is how to make the acrylic work like oils for a slow drying effect – great for those atmospheric effects and soft edges. (it’s worth taking this workshop just for that)
An easel, painting knife and palette are useful. Plenty of rags or kitchen roll. I will bring a hair dryer – one or two more available will help.
Those attending the demonstration will be able to see the gear first hand. Anything not clear please let me know.
